Prior to becoming a Facilities Management provider, Dovetail had decades of name recognition and a great reputation under the stewardship of Lee’s father as a plumbing, gas and carpentry provider, operating predominantly as a one-man outfit.

However, after leaving the West Midlands Police force in 2010, Lee decided it was time to put his previously untapped entrepreneurial spirit to good use, by registering Dovetail Facilities Management in order to deliver grounds maintenance and cleaning services in the Coventry area.

We believe that our beginnings as a family business have encouraged us to remain grounded, and continuing to deliver services based on our core family values. Evidence of this is having retained our first ever contract – Axis, Coventry – to this date, a fact we are very proud of. And also by investing in our staff, with our first ever employee, Luke Rawlings, now doing an excellent job leading our grounds maintenance division as contract manager, after over 7 years with the company.

Operating out of a 10ft container at a local site, Dovetail Facilities Management quickly gained a reputation as a reliable and quality soft services provider – and within 6 months larger premises was required, with operations moving to a 40ft container in Balsall Common, Coventry.

With the acquisition of more sites, and due to expanding our services into reactive building maintenance & window cleaning, meant Dovetail FM was on the move again – securing our first office space, again in the Balsall Common area, and by 2013 we had taken a lease on a 1 acre site in Coventry city centre, from where we able to run our operations more effectively, and with this time, sufficient room to grow.

By 2015 – Dovetail FM had added a host more services hard and soft services such as, but not limited to; painting and decorating, electrical maintenance, and high-level works like roofing and guttering. One of the more major shifts in 2015 was to bring our aboricultural works, which we had previously sub-contracted, in-house, by registering Dovetail Tree Services as a limited company, in partnership with Mark Cattell, one of the region’s most respected aboricultural contracts managers, who services as Director today.

In 2016, Dovetail began trading under Dovetail Group (UK) – a necessary adjustment due to our extensive growth. By departmentalising the company, we were able to pursue more major contracts, such as our first contract with Solihull MBC, acquiring cleaning services at Alderbrook School. Since then we now have 10 SMBC schools under our management, with more requesting our services all the time. And other such contracts like the awarding of large vegetation management contracts with Fountains, on behalf of The Canal & River Trust, maintaining hundred of miles of the West Midlands canal system.

2016 also saw our first move into the construction sector, working with Byrne Homes, delivering cleaning and decorating packages, and in 2017 we made further strides into this sector, creating Dovetail Construction as one of our brands.

We now work as a principle contractor with CALA Homes, delivering large landscaping packages for their premium new builds and show homes. And in addition, we also now deliver cleaning, decorating & other services to the some of the Midlands’ construction industry’s key players such as Readie Construction, Avondale Interiors and St Modwen Homes.

In July 2017, we moved our office operations to our new head office in Hampton-in-Arden, Solihull. After a major refurbishment, delivered in-house, we now have some fantastic facilities for our directors, contracts managers, accounts team and our newly formed business development department to conduct their business from. Our new operational premises quickly followed, with the acquisition of 1.5 acres of land with a large hanger, affording us the ability to maximise our output by brining our Head Office, Training Facilities, Operational Yard & Grit/landscaping supply store all within a mile radius.

2018 is already shaping up to be another massive year for Dovetail Group (UK) – with the official launch of Dovetail Training – our OfQual regulated training wing of Dovetail Group - and our first experience as a company exhibiting at the NEC Health & Safety show in April.

Finally, to our existing clients, we thank you for your continued association with Dovetail Group (UK), and for potential clients, we look forward to working with you.
